The newest by Tim Burton is quite lovely. A sad whimsical tale about the renowned painter Margaret Keane, played by Amy Adams. Her life story is a bit surprising and unbelievable. A meek naive mother meets a man (Christoph Waltz) and marries him. At first, life is great, but he slowly begins to steal her identity, by taking credit for her paintings of mournful children with big eyes. He is charming and cunning. Margaret doesn’t enjoy lying to her daughter or her friends, but goes along with the big lie as she moves from an apartment to a mansion. Clearly, easy money and galas have made her better at sucking it up. After about ten years of this beautiful imaginary life, Margaret wakes up and takes back her life.

This is based on the real life of Margaret Keane and her second husband Walter Keane. Tim Burton does an excellent job with both the actors and the cinema photography. It is superbly acted and well executed.

Some trivia facts: In Sleeper, directed by Woody Allen, the society believes that Margaret Keane is the best artist from times of old.

The Powderpuff Girls have a character named after Margaret Keane.

Both Natalie Wood and Joan Crawford commissioned portraits from Ms. Keane. – [DVD] [Blu-Ray]
